One half of TeamCave, living the dream 💭 with my dream girl 😍, how lucky am I ? I get told to go away and work on the bikes 🔧🏍. We've ridden on the road 🛣 and track, raced at State Championships and embarked on open road tours. Living the dream 💑🏍🛫🐨🇦🇺🏖

I wanted to use a quick throttle on Streety. A Motion Pro brand would set me back some AUD$320, money just not there for this mod.

WHY A QUICK THROTTLE?

A quick throttle will normal vastly reduce the rotational travel of the throttle tube to e.g. 1/4 turn, these are some advantages:

  • Gives instant power as u end up opening the complete throttle with a simple flick of your wrist.
  • Helps you reach greater rpms sooner
  • Your posture doesn’t change as you don’t have to bend or over reach your wrist to open a full throttle.

Munted

Prior to to fitting the replacement throttle tube you need to take a part the throttle tube assemble on the handle bar. Ohh Oh someone had been a bit heavy handed before and has trashed the head of not one but both bolts.

Replacement

These bolts are pretty small and difficult to get into that space to try and get some kind of leverage on.

In this case a small pair of vice-grips locked onto the head of the bolt front vertical position.

With a short sharp jerk motion it was possible to free the bolt and replace with new bolts (don’t even think of keeping munted bolts – next time you may not be so lucky in removing it).

No Money Mod

Replace the munted with these

A couple of mismatched heads but the right threads and lengths, will do for now.

Always use medium strength loctite

No Money Mod

Money saver 🙂 for the price of $21 you can get a quick throttle for the Speed Triple.

In the picture you can see the original throttle tube removed from the Street (675) and the replacement from a Speed (1050).
Notice the diameter size difference of the pully collar/ cam.

The 1050 tube when used instantly converts the throttle to a 1/4 turn.
On the track this is a wicked mod.

You don’t have to reach over the grip to bring it to the full throttle position anymore.
I did find that the throttle was a little ‘Jerky’ which was a little putting off when going in to corners.

Howard helped me with this and by adjusting the throttle play so that you could barely feel any free movement.

Next ride out, perfecto, the man is a genius, thanks Howard.
